Pretty much all of my drawings are done at home or, sometimes, in the corners of my notebooks, since my high school course doesn’t include art classes. The birthday card was made for my dad on the day of his birthday, and all the pieces here were made with Copic markers. The background for the spider one was made with pigment ink.

My high-school course doesn't offer art classes, so most of my drawings are done at home, but these were done during a sketching course over a half-term holiday in 2016. I did about 10 sketches a day.

In lieu of a written assignment, an animation seemed like a good way of satirising self-proclaimed utopian societies. Initially I thought it might even be easier than a written assignment, but with its 1999 frames, um . . . it was way more work! Thie animation was done on a computer with the program Flipboom. The size of the file kept crashing the computer, so it was made in a few parts then exported to mp4, then the pieces were put together in Move Maker where we added sound and then exported to YouTube.

Here’a a school project from 2013 for which I colllaborated with my brother, Harry while in Quatrième (Year 8). This for an animation that served as the closing credits to a promotional video for the Section International at our lycée. This animation was made on a computer using FlipBoom Allstar software.

This is a project I did in 2015 during a course on traditional animation at the UCLA School of Film and Television. This involved many separate sheets of paper, each hand drawn. It was a treat to spend a week working with students from around the world and industry professionals - all of whom shared an enthusiasm for this classic art-form.

Traditional Pencil & Paper Animation

Before working on my personal project during the UCLA animation course, for the first few days I learned the traditional animation

techniques via a simpler study project — in this case a bouncing ball and a classic walking figure.

It’s not publishable yet, but I have learned a lot via this project. It needs thousands of lines of programming code to respond to the players controls, to generate characters, to make the characters respond to the player, the player’s attacks and the obstacles. It needs over one hundred of separate image elements to represent the player and the characters’ actions.

“Discombobulated” Sprite Graphics

It takes hundreds of sprite graphics to depict all the different motions and actions (and destructions!) of the characters. Of course, some of them are almost copies - but the subtle differences have to made pixel by pixel in order to get the right effect. © 2016 Charles Angelus "Charlie" Pollock © 2016 Charles Angelus "Charlie" Pollock © 2016 Charles Angelus "Charlie" Pollock © 2016 Charles Angelus "Charlie" Pollock
